Survey Data Delivery Checklist

The checks a survey crew should complete before delivering GNSS, RTK, point cloud, and raw observation files, so the office can process them without a callback.

Download it

Free, no email required. Edit it to fit how your firm already works.

The full resource is on this page too, so you can read it before downloading.

Complete this before the crew leaves the site and before the data is handed to the office. It is cheaper to check a box now than to send someone back to re-occupy a point. Read it here, then download it for the field book or the truck. It pairs with RoverDrop for land surveyors.

Raw field data

  • Raw GNSS observation files exported from every receiver used
  • Static occupation files for all control points
  • RTK or topo data collector file exported (the job file, not just a report)
  • Total station raw data downloaded, if used
  • Level runs or digital level data included, if used
  • Nothing left only on the data collector

Control and metadata

  • Control sheet: point IDs, coordinates, datum, and adjustment notes
  • Base station location, antenna height, and setup recorded
  • Rod or antenna heights noted for each setup
  • Coordinate system, datum, and units clearly stated
  • Localization or calibration file included if used
  • Field notes and sketches scanned or photographed legibly

Point clouds and scans (if applicable)

  • LAS or LAZ files exported at the agreed density
  • Scan registration report or targets included
  • Photos or panoramas exported if part of the deliverable
  • Large files zipped and verified as complete

Deliverables and derived files

  • LandXML surface or alignment if required
  • DXF or DWG linework if required
  • Processed coordinate list (CSV) if required
  • Any client-specific format the job calls for

Before it goes to the office

  • File names follow the firm standard (job, date, type)
  • Total size and file count look right for the day
  • Multi-gigabyte files finished uploading and were verified, not just started
  • A cover note states what was collected and anything unusual
  • You have a receipt confirming the office received a complete, verified packet

Beyond the template

Deliver survey data with a receipt

RoverDrop gives survey crews a receipt on every delivery, a chain of custody from the rover to the office, and a write-once archive of the raw data. Try it with sample data first.
